Imagine always being treated differently.
Imagine living below the poverty line.
Imagine not being able to do anything about all this as you do not have sufficient access to health care.
Yes, it is all real. No matter how much we deny it, being a person of color is difficult when you are in
minority.
Read on to learn all about minority mental health care and how can you address it the right way.

The Mental Health Issues in people of color – the causes and outcomes

People of color often suffer from poor mental health because of multiple reasons, such as:

Inaccessibility to satisfactorily mental health care services

Stigma and taboos associated with seeking mental health care

Discrimination

Lack of mental health awareness

Lack of culturally skilled care

To understand the gravity of the situation, let’s take a look at the stats:

  1. The highest rate of depression, at 40%, was reported by Puerto Ricans.
  2. The black beneficiaries were next, with a 27.1% depression rate all across the country.
  3. American Indian and Alaskan native reported 9% more depression than the white beneficiaries.
With numbers like these, it is highly important to deal with this minority mental health issue quickly and
    correctly.
